What is endorsement?
Endorsement in Portuguese means, sponsorship, endorsement or support, which is a technique that brands use to promote their products.
It occurs when a musician receives a product or service from a company that wants a disclosure, be it in shows, album recording (studio or live), workshop, in addition to its use in the media in general.
Who can be endorser?
Anyone that any company believes can give the expected result in the disclosure in their equipment!
And who is Edu di Carvalho to talk about?
Well let's go, I'll tell you a little of my story and why I think I can address such a subject!
I was born in the interior of São Paulo, and at the age of 18 I began to play professionally living music since then.
I started my story in music in rock cover bands playing Bon Jovi, Metallica, Kansas Journey, Guns n Roses, Skyd Row, Europe and many other great bands.
A while later I ended up playing with forró and sertanejo dance bands because of the money that was already earned at the time!
It was then that I began to produce and record in inland studios coming later to record in larger studios and having the opportunity to play in musical tracks for programs like Globo Reporter, People's Land, Caminhos da Roca and Ana Maria Braga from TV Rede Globo.
And as a sideman I came to work with several artists, opening up an art consultancy company called Music8 Assessoria Artística which attended and attended big names as the presenter Rodrigo Faro, the singer, guitarist and businessman Afonso Nigro (Ex Domino).
Diverse works with established artists such as Edson and Hudson, Mazinho Quevedo, Hugo and Tiago and other big names in country music.
Already with this baggage and hands-on experience I started to close contracts with several brands with 17 brands at my side, among them 2 international ones.
Baggage and experience that led me to be responsible for 2 brands taking care of Marketing and closing the endorser team that represents them!
What do companies look for to contract with a musician or artist?
Visibility and the first thing, because the greater the visibility of the artist, the greater the visibility of the equipment or brand in question! Or something that draws the attention of the company that makes you leave your comfort zone and come to close a contract with such a musician.
Who can be endorser?
Anyone who has the visibility or has something that the company believes is a differential to come to make your product be seen and believed in the market!
Today I see musicians or artists that have great visibility on any platform or digital media, but I also see some that only highlight certain segments, some only on Youtube, other Facebook and others on Instagram!
What does an endorser get?
There are different contracts today, some involving equipment, equipment discounts, and other caches or even royalty and salaries.
Today most companies give the equipment to musician in exchange for the disclosure, but there are cases of the company selling the equipment at cost price to it, which some criticize some musicians for accepting such a situation thinking that the company has the obligation to give the equipment to the musician and everything is alright.
I am fortunate that all 17 companies I represent today do not pay for any equipment, but I do not criticize the musician who has a discount agreement with the brand.
There are cases also of musicians with more prestige and name in the market to gain salary of the mark or royalty when the same one has some equipment bearing its name, that is the so-called signer products.
Should I want to be an endorser just to win the equipment?
Before you want to represent such a brand you should know the same and your products, and if it is really something that you will use because you believe in the equipment and the brand, then close the partnership.
Ah more I see several endorsers who do not touch what I touch or do not have the visibility that I have and have big companies that support it, and what?
Well, something else the company that supports it saw in it, be a differential or even a bet that it becomes a great name or have a great visibility.
Are there musicians who use this brand of equipment just for the money?
Oh yes, there are certainly many who practice such an act that I consider dishonest, because they use something they do not believe in, that's when they actually use it, some do the famous reviews videos, they sign the equipment, but on the stage or studios you will never see the even in the midst of your equipment! (laughs).
A quick summary of what I think ...
Want to be an endorser?
First know the brand and its equipment before looking for it.
See if they really are products you use because they really are good, not just for the sake of winning.
Got the endorsement?
Honor the company always, and fulfill what you have agreed so you do not get burnt, always leave the door open if you ever need to come back!
The company being well you will always be well too!
If I close endorsement with some company I will have greater visibility and conquer others?
This will depend on the type of work you will do.
Am I better than the other musician because I have many endorsee?
Of course not!
Again I point out that some musicians have something that companies are looking for, not always and because they play more or because they are more popular than others!
Before thinking about having brands supporting your work focus on having a great job, focus on being a musician with some differential, build a solid career and with this you will see that everything will be easier when you look for a company or even a company to look for you .
I hope I have helped, because everything I put in this matter are questions that make me day by day!
